This bread knife is a replacement for the Wusthof Bread knife which I have owned for 38 years.........which is my very favorite knife that I cannot praise highly enough! After all these years the serrations on the old bread knife have worn down with sharpening and it’s not possible to get it sharp enough any more. I have a complete set of this brand of knife and each one is a treasure. The non-serrated knives are still going strong.Excellent workmanship and excellent value!I bake homemade bread regularly and have a slice with dinner most nights. I already had the Wusthof 8" bread knife, but purchased the 9" double-serrated knife when it was on sale. Upon receiving the 9" knife, I immediately noticed that the 9" knife felt significantly heavier than the 8" knife. Weighed both and found that the 9" knife is approx. 66% heavier than the 8" knife. In addition to the 9" knife being one-inch longer, it is also a little wider. The extra weight is not a plus or minus to me, just different from what I was used to. Four stars because I don't feel that the 9" knife cuts bread any better than the Wusthof 8" bread knife.My bread knife search is finally over. Wish I found this knife sooner. A well worth investment for lifetime joy of slicing bread!This is a great bread knife - whatever you need to cut, it's the right size and more than sharp enough to go through it. Works for slicing cakes in half as well. By the way - did I mention it's sharp? My son cut himself putting it away - so treat it as you would any real kitchen knife. This knife should last you a lifetime - I've been using Wusthoff for years and they just don't wear out - and they take sharpening very, very well. I can't recommend this knife enough.If you are getting married, put Wusthof on your registry. If you are 100 years old and need a knife, you still need these! This particular knife I bought for my father in law and his wife for a gift. I usually buy one or two a year. They love them too and look forward to adding a new knife to their collection. My husband gave me a set for my birthday ten or so years ago and I swear this is one of the best gifts he ever bought me (although when I received the gift I probably looked at him like he was crazy!) Top quality. I don't put mine in the dishwasher. You will never want to cut anything with another type of knife again. The bread knife slices bread nicely without mauling it.
