Product Description

Product Description Value not found. Wusthof Classic 4-1/2-Inch Utility Knife Amazon.com Called a utility knife because it does small and intermediate cutting jobs equally well, this knife pares fruit and chops small vegetables beautifully. The sharp point makes it ideal for small or intricate cutting chores. A much-loved kitchen helper, this knife carries its weight mostly in its extremely comfortable handle, which allows you greater control. Part of the Classic series, the knife represents two centuries of unexcelled Wüsthof craftsmanship. Like other cutlery in the series, it's hand-forged from a single piece of stainless steel for maximum strength; the hand-polished blade is exactingly calibrated to be hard enough to resist dulling yet soft enough to take a keen edge when it's honed or sharpened. Dishwasher-safe and with a traditionally shaped, ergonomically designed handle that is triple-riveted for durability, the knife brings a guaranteed lifetime of low-maintenance cutting to any cook who owns it. --Arthur Boehm

The review below is very similar to my review of the wusthof Classic 8" knife since they're very much alike, besides the very obvious size difference. This is a great knife. I was originally going to buy an entire set as a gift to my mom, but after much thought - realized that it's better to spend the money on a few quality knives than buying a set where most of the knives are rarely used. After some reading and research, I decided on the 8-inch cook's knife and this 4.5" utility knife. I'm very happy on my decision, and so is my mom. The large knife is used for most meal prep, and the smaller knife is used for more delicate cutting (for fruits, etc.)This knife cuts beautifully and feels great in your hand. It retains its sharpness and looks good too. In fact, everyone who came to visit during the holidays and spent some time in the kitchen for meal prep, exclaimed (unprompted) how great these knives were. They're unbelievably sharp, cutting through meat, cooked conch, vegetables, fruits, and so much more with great ease. The splurge on the Wusthof Classic line is well worth it. They have several others, such as the gourmet line, which are cheaper, so be careful when you're looking. The classic line is full tang (blade is forged from a single piece of metal and extends into the entire length of the handle), and are therefore much more durable and feel a lot better in your hand. I'd highly suggest giving lots of thought into getting really great knives, and think about the knives you use most (i.e. if you don't often eat bread, a really expensive bread knife really isn't a must) when making a purchase like this one.Meals together is a big part of our family, and cooking a meal together as a family when we're all home for the holidays means a lot to all of us. Having a great knife to ease through the long process of preparing a good meal really does make a huge difference. I think this knife will last for a really long time, and am glad to have added it to the collection at home.Minor note: I noticed that the red wusthof square sticker is just that...a sticker. I was shocked at having a sticker as a logo on such an expensive knife, and even doubted its authenticity. A bit of Google research showed that yes, indeed, wusthof classic knives have a red logo sticker on them that would probably come off after some use. It's not biggie - just peel it off if it bothers you, and continue to use the knife for all of it's amazing qualities regardless.I have had a Wusthof Classic knife block set for about 30 years and love it. Last week I broke the tip off the 4.5 inch utility knife trying to do something with it that was stupid. In looking to replace the knife I was overjoyed to find that the Classic series was still being produced. However, I did find that new knives to this series came with an imprinted logo vs a sticker as previously was done. Wanted the replacement to match the other knives but willing to overlook the imprinted logo. Luckily I found an older 4.5" that was new and had the sticker. Could not be happier (unless I had not broken the knife to begin with). Fast delivery, zero complaints.Bought another brand for $20 at Publix that looks similar, not as heavy though. Both lose their sharpness within a week of use. So in my opinion, the more expensive one here is not worth the money.Nothing to dislike about it. Very sharp, and manageable!5 stars. Cuts like butter right out of the box and holds its edge, super ergonomic feel. I love wusthof i have 3 so far but i will have much more eventually. I cook for a living and i spend most of my time in the kitchen so i need reliable good quality blades in my knife roll, if you are a chef like me or even just a home cook i highly recommend wusthof.I purchased this knife as part of a Christmas gift package for my wife which included the Wusthof Classic three piece knife set. One of the first tests was to use one of the larger knives to slice a squash in half for baking. It went through with a little effort, but nothing like what it took with the old Chicago cutlery knife that we used before (took two hands)! This was the larger kitchen knife in the three piece set. We have used the smaller 4 1/2" knife for mostly chopping and dicing, and again the difference was like between night and day compared to our old Chicago knife for used for similar tasks.I have limited experience with other knives and how they compare to Wusthof, but so far these knives are just great for what we need. Time will tell how long the edge lasts, so I cannot endorse the longevity, but right now I highly recommend the Classic Wusthof knives for anyone thinking about upgrading!I was searching for quality knives at a reasonable price that would last the rest of my lifetime. I looked at many sets within my price range. I was going to buy the Victorinox knives with the Fibrox handles. I am so glad I didn't. I went to a local store to see the Victorinox knives in person. The Fibrox handles feel like cheap plastic in my hand. When I got my Wusthof knife I knew before touching it that it is far better. Side by side, the Wusthof just looks more expensive. The handle is not too flat. It a bit thicker so I can get a good grip. That control is important especially when using the 3 1/2 inch knife to peel potatoes.I cannot give a review on the blade yet because I'm moving and have to store this set till we are at our new home. I am impressed enough with these knives to order several other sizes. I'm actually proud and excited to own these knives. They are better than expected. Don't hesitate to purchase them. They are worth the price. For what it's worth, this knife arrived sharp enough to shave with. I'm told that that is a measure of quality. If so, this is a great knife. It has a good feel, and is a pleasure to use. It is, however, a little bit longer than you would want for a paring knife.Edit:We had this knife for 6 months before discovering its flaw. It disappears! Seriously, we've looked everywhere. How do you lose a kitchen knife, especially the one you use so often it lives on the counter? I'm going to immediately buy another, but maybe I'll get the shorter one to avoid the invisibility feature.Firstly this is really excellent, beautifully made, comfortable to use and razor sharp.I have many Wusthof knives and am always looking for an excuse to buy another one.I have various small knives at 7 and 8 cms and a fine cook's knife at 16cms, so I thought I could justify buying something in between. I looked at the 9cms and 12cms paring knife. Can anyone explain why the 9cms knife is priced at £33.50, whereas the 12cms knife is £27?They are the same knife, save that the cheaper one is bigger. Does that make sense to anyone?I love the Wusthof Classic range because the blades are super sharp and great quality (actually the same blades they use in their more expensive Ikon range). The full tang give the knives real balance in your hand and is a joy to use.Personal preference for me is to have a full bolster on my smaller knives like this one (mainly because i have big hands) and half bolster on my larger blades.A fab knife! I want to get more of these as it makes cooking just soo much easier. Very sharp, stay sharp, and cuts through veggies with ease!Needed a new paring knife and as I have other blades by Wusthof it was a no brainer to go with another. Light, extremely sharp and easy to hold this is a must have in any kitchen. One family member cut herself twice in the first few days of using. Dont mess about and be careful chopping. Very impressed with this knife.
