Product Description

The KME Precision Knife Sharpening System model KF-D4 is the newest KME sharpener system as of June 2015. It Includes: KME Knife Sharpening System, KME Gold Series Diamond hones in 4 grits - XC 140, C 300, F 600 and XF 1500, 1oz Water Bottle, 12 x 12 Cotton Cleaning Cloth, Detailed Instructions and Hardshell Storage Case. This is everything you need to get from very dull to extremely sharp without needing to buy any additional stones. About the KME sharpener: the KME Sharpener is a manual rod-guided controlled angle sharpening system. It is small and portable and offers capabilities and features beyond comparably priced systems. It features a rotating blade clamp which speeds up the sharpening process and spherical rod guiding system maintains precise angles making it easy for ANYONE to sharpen knives and broadheads. The sharpener allows continuous angle adjustments from 17 to 30 degrees and is marked out in single degree increments for easy angle selection. The new low profile clamp is neoprene lined to protect your blades from scratching or marring, and is marked with two depth lines to assist with repositioning the knife for touch ups. The standard vise is also easily interchangeable with KME pen knife and broadhead sharpening jaws which are available separately. They use beautiful solid cherry wood for the grip and stone holder. Their stone holder allows for quick stone changes of the large 1 x4 inch stones with a simple knurled thumb screw system and all their sharpening accessories screw firmly onto the same guide-rod. And it all stores inside a hard sided carry case measuring 12 x 8 x 3-1/2 inches. The case includes soft foam lining in both the base and lid to protect your sharpener and accessories. An additional layer of stiffer foam has cut-outs for the stone carrier, stones, water bottles and holds everything securely in place when the lid is closed. An all-around great sharpening system for home and field use.

Works greatI researched various, but similar knife sharpeners. This one appealed to me most as it clamps the blade between two aluminum jaws. There are other sharpeners that don't have that. I can honestly say, if you can't clamp the blade, don't even try. The clamp feature IMHO is a must. The honing stones it comes with are sufficient to get a mirror type edge finish. Very happy with the sharpness I can achieve with this. It is a bit challenging to adjust the angle as to not have to take too much material off the blade to get an edge. I was able to sharpen anything from a 2.5" folding knife blade to a 10" kitchen knife.Reason why I gave it 4 stars is simply that the guide rod has to be removed from the handle every time in order to fit into the case. If it were only 1/2" shorter it would fit into the case diagonal. I either cut the rod or drill a small hole in the case so it all fits. Other than that, very happy.Oh, one last note:=> This is NOT for quick sharpening!!! It does take time ~30-45min depending on the condition of the blade. So if you want something very quick, this is not the sharpener for you! I don't mind the time, it is actually relaxing and fun to use.Absolutely love this system! It’s easy to use and comes with everything you need to get an even, razor sharp edge on your knives. I decided to pick up some glass blanks for honing films and a wooden base to go along with it which definitely improve the experience. The honing films paired with the sharpening system made it easy to get a mirrored finish on the edges. I’ve already sharpened a couple of my knives in D2 steel and the Extra Course stone included in the kit had no issues getting a quick edge on the blade. Great product! This feels like it would be a good value at half the price. 4 small diamond stones are clearly the bulk of the value, but the guide system feels almost homemade. The clamp is mediocre at best (I need to add a layer or 2 of masking tape onto a couple of my knives i order to get them to hold tight enough) and other parts (angle adjustment, guide rod, and knob that keeps stones in place) all require additional tools (pliers or screwdriver) in order to get them tight enough. That being said, it works- but so does a Lansky for 25% of the cost. For 2 bills, the engineering should be tighter. It's a great sharpening system. There is a learning curve, but that's expected with any system and is handled with practice. Learn on some knives you don't care about in various steels before sharpening the ones you do care about and you will have no issues. This is the last one you'll need I've used quite a few different types of sharpeners for my knives Lansky,GATCO,APEX Edge Pro, Smith and compared to this one they are all cheap junk this is by far the best. Sharpening was fast and easy about a half hour per knife to get a shaving edge that's with re-profiling the knife touching up the blade will be a lot quicker..I didn't buy the base I made my own but I think its worth buying and will make sharpening easier.Made in the USAEasy to set up and useonly one rod and holderAngel is always correct on both sidesSolid buildGood Customer serviceLots of options on web site to take it to the next level.Cons:System is a bit pricey but its worth it.Not a field sharpener. Its not a Field sharpener kitI am a part time knifemaker. I had been setting the bevels on my knives with my belt grinder and then finishing the edge with water stones and a leather strop. I am able to produce a shaving sharp edge this way. I bought this to get a more accurate edge angle and tried it today on a blade I just finished that is 61 rockwell. I was really surprised how quickly I was able to get a razor sharp edge first time using this system. I will be buying some finer stones for it simply because I like a highly polished edge on my knivesI've tried many other sharpening systems and this is my favorite without spending $400+ on a knife sharpener. The clamp works great and the stones are top notch. I have a non clamp system also and this beats it hands down. It's easy to use, the stones cut fast and the angle is accurate. What more can I ask for in this price range. I highly recommend this system and KME customer support is the best if you happen to have any problem.
