I bought these to organize my knife drawer and they did do that for the steak knives, but really not large enough or sturdy enough to separate/organize anything larger. Unless they're secured down somehow they also "walk" around over time and need to be reset. They're okay.Simple but sturdy little gadget to organize knives.I used a box and a half to store two whole sets of kitchen knives** (plus some extra ceramic knives) in one standard-sized kitchen drawer. Actually one box would have worked okay, but I bought two boxes anyways, and one box would have left just an inch to the side which would have bugged me.A couple reviewers complained that these tip over. They do not if paired up, as shown. They come as single rows of spacers and have tabs and slots on the underside to clip them together. So clip pairs together, then they can attach to each other, staggered, to fill the whole drawer. The box comes with 4 total. You could leave them in single rows but that makes them a bit unstable... though it would probably work for your smaller paring, cheese, and steak knives to one side. (So you see, there are multiple ways to set this thing up to fit your space ideally.) Best of all, unlike a wood block or many other in-drawer organizers, the organizer itself does not take up any space in the drawer. One issue I did have is that the slots are close enough together that handle-crowding is an issue... I had to insert a knife into every other slot as opposed to every slot. This was OK with the shorter knives, which I could turn around in the drawer (not recommended for safety reasons, I did this only with my ceramic knives which have sleeves).A second issue is that with the tab-and-slot connection method, you can only connect in one way. By that I mean that the slots are spaced in such a way that the first slot is too far from one end to allow a connection. Imagine you have two pieces, tabs facing you, they can only connect with the next piece staggered up and right, and won't connect on the left. So if you are having an issue connecting them, check the bottom and see if that is the problem.** To clarify, a box and a half (6 pieces total) in a standard drawer stored one It's been 5 minutes since the driver dropped this off and I'm done with assembly, installation and knife loading. It is ideal for my primary 6 cooking knives (all between 12-17 inches long with thick white nylon handles so one knife in every other slot).A key advantage is that this comes in four segments, each with about 12 teeth or slots. Each segment has "male" and "female" ball & socket connectors on the front and rear edges so you can snap together two segments into a 6" long unit with two rows of "teeth". This keeps your inserted knives aligned, blades facing down and the unit upright. I didn't have to afix it to the drawer bottom with double-stick tape. Maybe I'll feel it's necessary in a month or so.Since there are 4 segments in this set I only used half of the pieces. Hmmm, maybe they can hold chisels in my tool cabinet!Very happy solution for a long-irritating (and unsafe) kitchen issue.Update 1-14-21 - Still great but I did follow a previous reviewer's comment and applied double-stick carpet tape to afix the organizer to the bottom of my drawer.Simple, easy to use. Does what I needed it to do. I would buy again. These separaters are ready easy to use and work well. Makes the knife drawers much safer. It's not fancy, but it does the job at an inexpensive price. I decided on this one because I was able to use a small saw to size it to the width of my utensil holder. I have an 8" chef's knife, 6" utility knife, and a small paring knife. The only one it has a problem with is the chef's knife since it's too large to hold it upright and fit in the drawer -- the holder would have to be either taller or placed farther back on the knife and that pushes it too high up. This would be better for small to medium sized knives, or steak knives, or in a very tall drawer. It also will move if placed on a smooth surface in a drawer that is slammed (even with soft close). That's fixable by adding a rubber mat protector below. Still, better than all the other options if you're trying to save a lot of space and only have a few knives!I am really excited about the fact that I can find the right knife immediately when I open the drawer. They are easy to see and the safety factor is welcome. I was always afraid of getting cut rummaging around in the drawer for the right knife. I realized I have a ton of the little paring knives, I could never find one so I kept buying them. They were all at the bottom back of the drawer, now they are right in the front and very handy, so I won't waste money buying extras anymore! The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that it could be improved by putting some rubber or something on the bottom. My teenage daughter tends to slam drawers and the knives slide toward the back. I plan to put a rubberized drawer liner in my knife drawer under my organizers, and that should do the trick.
