This review is about the Lamson 59952 Fire Forged 10" Wide Chef KnifeIn my collection, I also have a Wusthof Grand Prix II 8" chef knife, and a cheap. but great $15.00 Mercer 10" chef knife with that perfect grippy, rubberized handle. Further, I have a $20.00 J.A. Henckels 8" chef knife which was one of the sharpest ever. Those are what I am comparing this to.I saw this for $99.99 elsewhere, and fell in love. I like excitement in my life! I came here and found that International Coffee & Books had it for $66.26. (excellent service!!) I waited a week, and pulled the trigger.First, I'll get a con or two out of the way: Do not machine wash this, because it does not deserve that. When I washed it with a soapy sponge, it was VERY slippery. It is also very sharp. You have to be careful about handling it. Also, it is very front heavy. It is partly because the knife is 2" longer than most, but moreover, the THICKNESS and quality of this gorgeous steel. It has the thickest spine/blade of all. To make it more balanced they would have had to make it thinner, (cheaper) or add weight to the rear, which would be too heavy. It weighs 10.8 Oz. When you look at this beautiful, polished stainless steel, it may not matter to you either! :-) When dry the handle is very comfortable, and I have huge hands. I do a lot of, 'rocking motion" chopping, and it's fine with that. Now, another thing which I expected which makes it more exciting: The handle is made of a synthetic resin, and when you buy one, and they all look different. (see pic, and compare to their pic)Anyway, I love using it, and it's a KEEPER!
